07.july.2005 :: thursday :: waiting for the flood

you know it's happened to you before: the encounter with the dreaded, unseen pile of dog manure. last time i went for a run, i had the misfortune of landing my right foot squarely in what must have been a sizeable deposit. oddly, though, i didn't notice it. it was sometime the next day when that unmistakable odor caught my attention. eww. this situation is a notable drawback to apartment living. what exactly is one supposed to do about the offending shoe-goo? lacking an outdoor hose hookup, the options seem to be washing if off in the tub, trying the much-hated stick-method, or perhaps sinking the shoe in the toilet and flushing multiple times to see if the stuff won't be coaxed to go where it its human counterpart [usually] does. finding none of these options attractive, i opted to ignore the stuff for the time being and simply didn't wear the shoes for several days. the smell went away after a day, perhaps as a result of dessication. luckily, yesterday presented a new opportunity to deal with the problem in a less confrontational manner. it poured all morning, such that by the time i walked to my bar review class, i had my choice of puddles, rivulets, and lush, wet grass to do the dirty work for me. i highly recommend this technique. after a mere ten minutes of navigating the flash-flood between home and school, voila! my shoe was shit-free...and ready for another run today.
